SUMMARY:Art Kiosk Exhibition - They are Flying
DESCRIPTION:  \nArtist :Ilya & Emilia Kabakov \nViewing Dates : October 1st – December 8th 2022 \nDOWNLOAD PDF \nAbout the exhibition:\nThe Art Kiosk is thrilled to present the work of Ukrainian artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov. Both artists were born and raised in Dnepropetrovsk\, Soviet Union and are recognized as the most important Russian artists to have emerged in the late 20th century. Ilya’s early installations speak as much about conditions in post-Stalinist Russia as they do about the human condition universally. Their new works may be seen in leading museums around the world. \nThey are Flying is a massive new painting that will be on view in the form a large cylindrical lantern for Constellations: Global Reflections\, the first art exhibition created for a G20 summit. Curator Lance Fung asked the Kabakovs to participate to represent both Russia and the Ukraine in this historic exhibition. One leading artist from each G20 member state has been commissioned to make a new artwork to be seen in Bali this November. Following the special pre-view for the G20\, B20 and 020 summits\, Constellations will be on view for the public to enjoy throughout much of 2023. We are very honored to have the opportunity to preview the Kabakov’s artwork as well as give the Bay Area a sneak peek of Constellations: Global Reflections. The full exhibition may be seen on www.fungcollaboratives.org in November. \nArtist statement:\nWe are Flying\, 2022 \nWe don’t know exactly why or when this event happened. People started to fly. \nIs it because the time has come when it is impossible to live on earth and everybody moved to virtual reality or even another planet? \nAre they already living in another dimension flying around\, meeting others\, having parties in the imaginary space in the sky\, fishing and even harnessing birds to fly with them? \nOr just the opposite… \nThe earth is so clean and beautiful that we ourselves became weightless and can fly? \nThere is no longer any need for airplanes or cars. The air is clear and transparent and people just enjoy life going on vacation to different parts of the world and buying souvenirs from faraway places. There is no pollution\, no aggression\, no wars. \nThe humans are now just living in a beautiful paradise called earth. \nWe don’t know if this is a fantasy or a prediction but we do know that it is up to all of us to attempt to make this a reality for the next generation and for the near future. Ilya and Emilia Kabakov\, 2022 \nAbout the Art Kiosk\nThe Art Kiosk aims to bring thought-provoking installations and public art to Redwood City and the Bay Area through eight\, six week-long exhibitions during 2022. Artists from the region and around the world have been invited to realize their ambitious site-specific artworks for our Bay Area audience to enjoy. The initiative was conceived and is curated by Lance M. Fung. Donated project management of the exhibition series is provided by Fung Collaboratives. The Redwood City Improvement Association (RCIA) is the sole sponsor ever since the inaugural year of 2019. Redwood City acts as the logistical partner. Please drop by for a visit 24/7 at 2208 Broadway\, Redwood City\, CA. \nDetails found at: www.fungcollaboratives.org \nFung Collaboratives Art Shows \nThe Art Kiosk aims to bring thought provoking Installation / Public Art to Redwood City\, CA and the Bay Area through a series f five week-long exhibitions\, throughout 2020. The initiative began in January 2019 as a nonprofit partnership between Fung Collaboratives as the curator and organizer\, Redwood City as the location and logistical partner\, and the Redwood City Improvement Association (RCAI) as the primary funder. Artists from the region and around the world were invited to realize their ambitious site-specific commissions in 2019. Each artist has researched the City\, it’s history\, and residents to conceive their new temporary installation so that each exhibition is meaningful and relevant to the viewers. \nIn this second year of exhibitions\, the curatorial focus has shifted exclusively to the Bay Area providing a much needed exhibition venue for the talented artists that call the Bay Area home. The artists are challenged to identify\, react and respond to the local environment for the inspiration of their site-specific commissions. Each exhibition promises to be thoughtful and engaging and is free to the public. \nWe would like to recognize the Redwood City Improvement Association as the sole funder the 2020 exhibition series along with the continued and crucial support of Redwood City. \nThe Art Kiosk is located at 2208 Broadway in Redwood City\, CA \n
