Christine Ong-Dijcks’ Artistic Vision Comes to Life in RCIA’s Piano Design Project
Every year, the Redwood City Improvement Association (RCIA) continues to enhance the city’s lively artistic landscape. As part of their Sights, Sounds & Tastes Campaign, an initiative focused on bringing artistic vibrancy and cultural experiences to Redwood City, the RCIA will debut a second piano for the community to enjoy. Titled, “Living the Life”, artistically adorned and painted by Filipino Chinese artist, Christine Ong-Dijcks, this baby grand piano will be officially unveiled on Wednesday, March 11, from 11 am to 12 pm, in the lobby of the newest County building, 500 County Center in Redwood City.
The Sights, Sounds, & Tastes campaign is a vibrant initiative designed to capture the essence of Downtown Redwood City. A central feature of this program is the installation of beautifully painted community pianos, with Christine’s piano set to be the second of three unveiled in the area. Artistic expression has long been integral to Redwood City’s thriving community, and the Piano Design Project has already enriched the city’s cultural landscape.
Christine infuses her work with warmth, vibrancy, and a touch of whimsy, masterfully capturing the essence of places, people, and the intricate tapestry of our world. With a degree from Ateneo de Manila University and the Philippine Institute of Interior Design, she found her artistic voice in the Bay Area, where she taught herself the art of oil painting and realized her lifelong dream of becoming an artist. Her work is a rich tapestry woven from her Filipino heritage, family travels across Europe, and the unique perspectives drawn from life in the Bay Area.
Christine’s piano design aims to evoke the beauty of nature amidst the dynamic transformations of Redwood City. By merging the natural splendors of Redwood City with the innocent joy of children blowing bubbles, Christine aspires to capture the essence of life’s simple pleasures—celebrating music, dancing and the joy of kids playing in the many parks that Redwood City offers. The piano stands as a testament to the local parks and community gatherings where music and laughter flourish, symbolizing the rich experiences that make life fulfilling in Redwood City.
As part of the Sights, Sounds & Tastes campaign, this piano unveiling is just one of the projects aimed at bringing sweet melodic tunes and stunning local art to the downtown community.
